Gyumri Museum of National Architecture and Urban Life
The private house built in 1872 by Petros Dzitholtsyan, a rich man from Alexandropol (registred in the list of monuments of the Kumayri Reserve Museum) was provided to the Museum of Folk Architecture and Urban Life of Gyumri, which was founded in 1984. The century-old structure withstood the devastating earthquake of 1988, but ceased to function as a cultural center. It was given to homeless families in a timely manner. In 1997 various exhibitions are organized in the reopened museum. The total number of the museum collection is 2272 exhibits, 1828 are displayed as permanent.
In the eastern part of the museum building, plans, models, costumes, crafts tools and samples of Alexandropol are displayed from different years (blacksmithing, tinsmithing, foundry, carpentry, tailoring, shoemaking, embroidery, weaving, jewelry, coppersmithing). The western part shows the spiritual cultural life and restored interiors of the apartments of the middle and rich classes of Alexandropol. The 1910s model of the city with 7 churches, notable streets and buildings stands out.
